Resource and Ecosystems Management Product Line
Product Line Description
The Resource and Ecosystem Management (REM) product line works for organizations that have complex environmental problems related to site management, restoration, and stewardship of natural resources. These organizations typically need to mitigate site contamination or address resource management issues from past, current, or future activities. The product line performs research and develops cost-effective scientific and technological solutions to contaminant and resource management problems. Our approach is based on an understanding of natural processes and an integration of marine, subsurface, and land resource scientific capabilities.
The REM product line provides value to our clients through our ability to understand the problems based on our past involvement and experience, then assemble an integrated team of experts to solve the problems. We are able to bring custom-designed tools and technologies to bear on the problem that provide our clients with innovative and cost-effective solutions to their problems. Our unique technologies, equipment, and facilities allow us to attack difficult problems in a cost-effective and innovative manner.
The REM product line offers technology-based consulting, directed research, and technology development to help our clients solve environmental and resource management problems. The business is focused on restoring, protecting, and sustaining the environment, natural resources, and ecosystems. We offer responsive, science-based approaches to mitigate impacts from past, current, or future practices and to cost-effectively respond to federal and state mandates.
Our product line is based jointly at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the Battelle Columbus Operations. Collectively, our products include offerings in environmental assessment and monitoring, fate and transport modeling, natural resource management, and human health and ecological risk assessment. Underpinning these offerings is our strong expertise in chemical measurement technology and statistics and database management, which helps differentiate us from the marketplace.
Our products and services help ensure that our clients base their decision-making and planning on data that are defensible from a scientific standpoint and that will withstand public, legal and regulatory scrutiny. The extensive breadth and depth of Battelle's capabilities, both at PNNL and BCO, as well as our ability to assemble multi-disciplinary teams of experts to solve complex environmental problems differentiate our product line from the competition.
At PNNL
The PNNL product line draws upon outstanding capabilities in earth sciences (hydrology, geology, geochemistry, biology, ecology), engineering (civil, environmental, chemical, and mechanical), analytical and physical chemistry, statistics, human health and safety, and sensors and controls to provide highly defensible solutions to challenging contaminant and natural resource management problems.
At Battelle Columbus
In addition to the joint product offerings listed above, BCO also offers human and ecological risk assessment and management products and services, which involves developing and applying methods, models and experimental data for measuring and predicting the levels, extent and nature of human and ecological exposures to and associated risks from contaminants in the environment. We also evaluate the relative contributions of different sources and pathways of exposure.
The principal sector served by BCO is the EPA sector, including the Offices of Research and Development; Pollution Prevention and Toxics; Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds; and Environmental Information. We also serve DoD clients, domestic state local and European environmental agencies, the oil and gas industry, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Although we perform primarily fee-for-service work, we also have opportunities for intellectual property development, most of which originate from our measurement technology product offering.
